College planning in 9th and 10th grade isn't about building a college list or turning every activity into a résumé item. It's about helping students understand themselves, develop strong high school habits, and begin making thoughtful choices about what they want to explore.
When students begin working with Application Mentor early, our work includes:

Discovering strengths and interests. Through the YouScience aptitude assessment, guided reflection, and ongoing exploration, students begin identifying natural abilities, academic interests, and possible career directions—without pressure to decide too early.

Application Strategy
Our initial session will begin with an in-depth interview, academic profile review, extracurricular deep dive, and aptitude-finding exercises. We’ll discuss your strengths and growth areas and how they align with your academic and career goals. We'll review a short writing sample. I'll synthesize all this information following this assessment to craft a personalized application strategy. We'll have a follow-up session to discuss my initial insights, address any questions or concerns, and collaboratively refine our approach.
Essay Review & Editing
I'll guide you through evidence-based brainstorming exercises to draw out meaningful experiences and insights that showcase your individuality. My feedback is detailed and constructive, always aimed at elevating the student's own voice rather than imposing a template. Through multiple rounds of revision, I push students to dig deeper, write with unique detail, and connect their experiences to their future goals. Mock Interview & Feedback
I replicate the actual interview environment with students to build familiarity and ease.
